Forest School, Snaresbrook – Phase 2 Murals
The first space we focused on was the 'Destination Centre' — an area in need of clear, engaging visuals to support student development. The brief was to translate the 'Directors of Futures' flowchart into a large-scale mural/infographic that would communicate potential pathways into work, college, or university. We incorporated Unifrog™ tiles into the design, creating a dynamic, easy-to-follow visual guide that now serves as a daily reference and source of inspiration for students planning their futures.
Next, the school asked us to create a mural celebrating the HPQ and EPQ thesis projects — unique qualifications that students research, write, and present each year. Each project title was individually designed as a stylised book cover or spine, forming a visually engaging library of student achievement. The mural aimed to both honour current students and inspire others to take on these extended qualifications.
We also adapted our pre-designed artwork into bespoke murals for the Modern Foreign Languages areas, representing French, Spanish, and Mandarin. These vibrant pieces helped to visually define the language classrooms and reflect the global nature of the curriculum.
Further enhancements were made in and around the music rooms, which branch off from a central spiral staircase, as well as near the English department. Here, we introduced classic literary themes at key entrances, adding depth, identity, and a sense of continuity to these important academic spaces.
Given the building's 400-year history, all mural placements were approached with care and sensitivity. In this phase, two smaller yet impactful murals were created to complement the historic architecture without overpowering it — adding colour, context, and character while respecting the school's heritage.
